Phoenix Ubuntu Forum

During the July Unrest in 2021, the PCC together with various other local community organisations launched the Phoenix Ubuntu Forum in an attempt to respond to aspects of the July unrest. The immediate task of the Ubuntu Forum was to assist to bring about an end to the violence and to develop a programmes to foster social cohesion in the Phoenix and surrounding region.

The social cohesion program included Sports tournaments between teams from Phoenix, Inanda, KwaMashu and Amaoti. In addition, a Food relief program was launched to provide food parcels to households affected by the violence from all areas around Durban.

The Phoenix Ubuntu Forum also made submissions to four Commissions ( Human Rights Commission, CRL Commission, Special Presidents Commission, and the Commission of the Department of Justice) relating to the July Unrest.

Today the Phoenix Ubuntu Forum continues to work with other civil society organizations and the CRL with programmes around Peace. Non-Violence. Reconciliation and Healing.
